Void
These three pieces were made in 2002. It was a diploma work to graduate ECAV, school of visual arts in Switzerland. All 3 faces belonged to students sharing the same school and studio space with me. Gilles is the first of three portraits. I wanted to reproduce his face and the quality of his skin, which tells much about his life and lived. In the process of work I decided to leave it unfinished. Gilles was coming every hour to see the progress of my work and I told myself that once the painting is complete, it would have no interest any more... Starting the two other portraits, I knew in advance that I will not finish them. I wanted to use direct sunlight to burn the image on the other side of the "tear", as it does in the process of photography. I liked the side as "torn photo" which somewhere is linking the fates of these three young men.
